Developing your Drawing and Painting Skills

painting 911804_1280

This course is for students who want to learn to draw and paint, whether for the pleasure of learning new skills, or to produce a portfolio or prepare for an exhibition. All levels of experience are welcome.
We will investigate drawing and painting processes to structure and stimulate different approaches/ideas. Students will learn to draw in line, tone and colour, colour mixing, glazing and impasto. They will explore dry and wet drawing materials, including pencil, charcoal, pastel, ink and paint: water as well as oil based.
Students will draw different subjects from observation and use drawings, paintings or photographic references to make compositions. Beginners will learn how to measure proportion and relate shapes and how to construct two-dimensional space working on different dimensions and surfaces. Experienced students will learn how to reinvigorate their working practice. Students will develop new visual ideas, looking at other artists’ work. They will keep a working sketchbook, make collages and explore textures and relief surfaces.
Students provide the materials of their choice and will be given advice about new materials. Some drawing materials and paper will be provided.
