Sweden 2015, 116 mins (dir. Hannes Holm) starring Rolf Lassgård, Bahar Pars, Filip Berg, Ida Engvoll.
Grumpy and depressed widower Ove gradually transforms to a caring friend and neighbour through his acquaintance with the extrovert Iranian Parvaneh who moves in across the street with her husband and two children. During a number of Ove’s unsuccessful suicide attempts we learn in flashback of the reasons for Ove’s negative attitude to life. This film is a heart-warming and surprisingly touching black comedy reminding us of the comfort that sharing problems and helping others can bring to a lonely and isolated life. It was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards.
