Science Meeting – Why good clocks don’t keep good time
September 13, 2018 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm
John Newgas, a collector and amateur clock restorer, looks at what is meant by good timekeeping and how some famous personalities have tried to correct errors caused by approximations in equation solutions and the unexpected influences of the surroundings.
The discussion will go from Pendulums to Quartz watches, and looking at Edmund Beckett QC, Charles-Edouard Guillaume and even mention the Barber of Seville. Most of the developments in horology are connected with interesting personalities.
